Collapse of a Bubble: CFD-DEM Study Published by the American Physical Society

The publication Collapse of a Bubble Injected Side-by-Side With Another Bubble into an Incipiently Fluidized Bed: A CFD-DEM Study was recently published by the American Physical Society.  This study used rapid magnetic resonance imaging to show how one bubble collapsed while the other bubble survived after the two bubbles were injected side-by-side into an incipiently fluidized bed.  The bubble that survived reached the surface of the fluidized bed.  The collapsing bubble phenomena was recreated using computational fluid dynamics-discrete element method (CFD-DEM) simulations.  This study investigates the conditions for which the bubble collapses and the reason why this phenomena occurs.
